Everything Is Free Until the Certificate
Alison is an online learning platform that launched in 2007 and now carries several thousand courses across business, technology, healthcare, languages, personal development, engineering, marketing and finance. Studying is free and so is completing a course, including the assessments. The catalog splits into two formats. Certificate courses are short, usually a couple of hours of study, and cover a single skill or topic. Diploma courses are longer and go through a subject area in sequence. Both are self-paced with no start dates and no deadlines. The paid part sits at the end: once you have passed, you can buy a document recording it, in digital, printed or framed form, or take a free record instead.
Course Completion, Not a Qualification
An Alison certificate records that you completed a course. It is not a qualification, and Alison says so itself rather than leaving you to find out. It does not substitute for a university degree, a professional license or any regulated credential, and where a job legally requires one of those, this is not it. What it can do is narrower and still real. Many courses carry CPD UK accreditation, which counts toward continuing professional development for people in fields that track it, though whether a particular employer or body accepts it varies. Treat the document as evidence of effort and of a specific skill, useful on a resume or in a conversation, rather than as something that clears a formal requirement.
Finish First, Then Decide on the Paper
Check what your own employer or professional body recognizes before you choose a course, not after you have paid for the certificate. CPD UK accreditation is the thing to look for if your field tracks CPD hours, and it is worth confirming they accept it.
Download the free Learner Record either way. It lists what you completed and what you scored, it costs nothing, and for a lot of purposes it does the same job as the paid document.
If a pre-purchase discount appears while you are partway through a course, it is the cheapest the certificate will be, but it is also a bet on finishing. Take it only if you are going to.
The referral program pays in discounts on future certificates rather than cash, so it is worth something only if you plan to buy more than one.
