Saily is a travel eSIM app from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. Instead of paying your home carrier's roaming rates, you buy a prepaid data plan for your destination in the app, install it as an eSIM, and connect to local networks when you land. Your Home Line Can Still Charge You
Installing a travel eSIM doesn't automatically stop your regular carrier from charging roaming. Most phones keep both lines active, and if the home line is still allowed to use data abroad, it can. The fix takes a minute. After installing Saily, set it as the line your phone uses for cellular data, and turn off data roaming on your primary line. Leave the primary line on if you want to receive calls and texts to your normal number, but be aware that answering calls abroad can still carry carrier charges. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible, which is worth confirming at home before you buy. A locked phone is the most common reason an eSIM won't install.
Install It Before You Fly
Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked and supports eSIM before buying. That's the most common reason installation fails, and it's easy to confirm in your phone's settings.
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. Saily plans activate when they connect in your destination, so installing early doesn't use up your plan.
Set Saily as your cellular data line and turn off data roaming on your home line. Otherwise your regular carrier can still bill you for roaming.
Choose a regional plan if you're crossing borders. One plan covering several countries is simpler than buying and switching between single-country plans.
Turn on the ad blocker in the app if you're mostly browsing. Independent testing found it noticeably reduces data use on websites, though it won't shrink video or streaming.
Add a US phone number only if you need to call or text businesses or people who don't use messaging apps. For most travelers, WhatsApp or FaceTime over data is enough.
