An Energy System Sold in Pieces

EcoFlow makes portable power stations and the equipment that turns them into a home energy system. The range runs from RIVER units sized for a weekend to DELTA models for outages and job sites, up to the DELTA Pro line, which stacks extra batteries and ties into a house through EcoFlow's own smart home panel rather than running extension cords. Alongside the batteries sit solar panels, alternator chargers, portable air conditioners and power banks. The batteries use lithium iron phosphate chemistry, which is heavier than the older type but lasts far longer, and most of the lineup is designed to be expanded after purchase rather than replaced.

Watts and Watt-Hours Answer Different Questions

Two specifications decide whether a power station suits you, and they answer different questions. Watt-hours are capacity, which tells you how long something runs. Watts are output, which tells you whether it will run at all, and a battery holding plenty of energy still cannot power a device drawing more than its continuous output. The catch is startup. Anything with a motor, a refrigerator, a sump pump, a window air conditioner, pulls several times its running draw for a second or two, which is what the surge rating covers. EcoFlow units typically surge to around double their continuous output, where an engine generator manages a fraction of that. Size on continuous watts first, check the surge, then look at capacity.
