Nine Patterns and Three Price Tiers

King's built the company on one idea, that a single camo pattern cannot work everywhere, and has been adding terrain-specific patterns since Desert Shadow launched in 2002. There are now nine proprietary patterns covering arid country, timber, high country, open fields and snow, plus the abstract XK7 introduced in 2021 and designed to work across western terrain and from a treestand alike. The catalogue runs from base layers through insulated outerwear to packs and accessories, built on a layering system and split across three lines: XKG at the performance end, Hunter in the middle, Classic as the entry point. Patterns and lines do not map one to one, so the pattern you want may not exist in the tier you were planning to buy.

Picking a Pattern for Where You Hunt

Pattern choice is not a matter of taste. A pattern works by matching the colour and tonal range of the ground you are standing on, so the right one depends on where and when you hunt rather than on which looks best on screen. Desert Shadow is light-toned with sandy browns and sage for open arid country, though its tone and vegetation shapes travel further than the name suggests. Mountain Shadow covers high country and timber, Snow Shadow late season, with Woodland and Field for their own terrain. KC Ultra is the disruptive all-rounder, built to work from a treestand to the desert. XK7 takes a different approach, abstract rather than photographic, breaking up your outline at distance. The rule: a terrain-specific pattern beats an all-rounder if you hunt one type of country, and the reverse holds if you move around.
