Portable Power Stations and the Panels That Refill Them

Jackery was founded in 2012 and pioneered the portable power station, now selling across more than 40 countries. The range covers Explorer power stations, SolarSaga foldable solar panels and HomePower home backup systems, built on LiFePO4 cells with a Battery Management System handling charge flow and thermal protection. Panels use MPPT charge controllers to pull usable power in weaker light, and units carry multiple output types, AC sockets, USB-C and DC ports, so a single station runs several devices at once. Pass-through charging means a station can power devices while it is itself being recharged (see the charging FAQ above).

Watt-Hours and Watts Are Two Different Numbers

These are the two specifications that decide whether a power station suits you, and they answer different questions. Watt-hours describe capacity, how much total energy the unit stores, which determines how long it runs something. Watts describe output, how much power it can deliver at once, which determines whether it can run a given appliance at all. A station with large capacity but modest output will keep a phone, laptop and lights going for days yet refuse to start a kettle or a power tool, because the appliance demands more instantaneous power than the inverter supplies. Work out the highest-draw item you actually need to run, check that against the output rating first, then size capacity by how long you need it for. Solar panels are a third, separate calculation, they set how fast the station refills, not what it can run, which matters for multi-day use away from mains power and barely at all for a unit you charge at home between outages.
